Boy’s Hostel


The double storied building of B. Borooah College Hostel that exists was built in 1964 with the funds of the University Grant Commission, the Assam Government and college itself. Since then this hostel has been an important Centre of the students coming from different part of the region with a thirst for learning. The two stories R.C.C building comprises total 31 rooms that accommodate 122 boarders of higher secondary, degree and Master’s degree students of the college. The hostel has a managing committee, comprising superintendent and faculty members of the college and headed by the Principal as president. Two monitors from final year degree students are appointed as monitor of ground and first floor to assist the superintendent of the hostel. A mess committee is also constructed each year to look after the mess and entire internal matter of the hostel.

The Mess Committee to run the mess of the hostel consist of:

  1. Superintendent as the chairman
  2. Two monitors and sick monitor
  3. Mess Secretary
  4. Common room secretary
  5. Social service secretary
  6. Secretary, games and sports
  7. Joint Editors, Hostel annual and wall magazine
  8. One representatives of each classes

Admission:

Admission to the B. Borooah College Hostel of regular students of the college is made for one academic year only, in order of merit, subject to the availability of the seat. On promotion to the next higher class, a boarder shall be admitted for the next academic year on the basis of new application, subject to the fulfillment of his satisfactory record in the hostel. Failed or dropping student in examination, service holder shall forfeit their hostel seat.

Events:

Hostel celebrates the freshmen social to welcome the newly admitted boarders in the month of August/September. In connection with this they also arranged competition in different events of sports, literature, and culture among the boarders of the hostel. “Geet aru Kabitar Gadhuli” an open cultural programme is also celebrates at an evening in the hostel premises among the boarders and invitees in the moth of January. viswakarma puja, and Saraswati puja are the other events celebrated by the hostel.

Literature:

Hostel publishes an annual magazine “Indradhanu” and a Wall Magazine “Indramalati” regularly to expose the talent of the boarders.
